Getting your new dentures can be quite the adjustment. Simple things like eating will feel uncomfortable at first. This is because while dentures replace natural teeth, they do not feel exactly the same. However, with practice, you can become a pro at eating with dentures. Dr. Campbell, Dr. Farnworth, and our team are thrilled to give you some advice to help you get used to your dentures.
Take Time to Adjust
Take it easy when eating with dentures at first. Eat soft foods that are cut into small pieces. Chewing slowly is also a great idea. As you become accustomed to your dentures, you can slowly move back to a more normal diet.
Tread Carefully
Try not to bite at the front of your mouth with dentures, as this can make them unstable. The dentures would then shift around, which could make your gums sore. If you do need to bite down on a food, use your canines instead of your very front teeth. Also, be sure to chew food on both sides of your mouth to keep an even pressure.
Gaining Confidence
You will become more adjusted to your new dentures after a few days or weeks. When you feel prepared, reintroduce firmer foods into your diet. However, you should still avoid gum, hot foods, or meals that have sharp bones or shells.
